Mississippi Early Childhood Association Celebrates

Week of the Young Child

April 13-19, 2008

Young children are the future of our communities, and there are many ways that Mississippi can come together for children. April 13th through 19th is “Week of the Young Child,” a time when we can reach out in our communities to help young children. Take some time to support early literacy initiatives, thank teachers who work with our children, and work towards public policies that benefit all young children.

Early literacy is the foundation of success in school. Get families involved by having a story time and a reading partner for the children. Exhibit the children’s artwork in the center and have an art expo night to showcase all the creativity of the children. Place children’s artwork in local businesses and mail them to your local city hall and city, county and state officials. Ask local business to help put together story bags and games for families to do at home.

This is also a time to thank all the teachers in our communities. Let them know they are appreciated for all the hard work they do. Have the children draw pictures or write letters to their teachers thanking them for all they do.
